ABOUT US
Compassion in Action for Lafayette County's Animals
Lafayette County Animal Shelter (LCAS), operated by Lafayette County Humane Society, is proudly contracted by Lafayette County to provide shelter services for lost and homeless pets. We rescue, care for, and rehome animals while promoting responsible pet ownership through spay/neuter advocacy, education, and outreach. FOSTER-TO-ADOPT
PROGRAM
-
Ideal for puppies or kittens that are too young for spay/neuter surgery at the time of adoption.
-
You’ll take the pet home as a foster, providing love and care during their early weeks.
-
Once the pet is old enough, you’ll bring them back to LCAS for their spay/neuter surgery (included in the adoption fee).
-
After surgery, the adoption is finalized, and the pet officially becomes part of your family.
-
This program ensures young animals get a healthy start while growing up in a stable, loving home.

VOLUNTEER
Make a difference - one paw at a time!
Volunteers are the heart of LCAS. Whether you're walking dogs, cuddling cats, helping at events, or lending a hand around the shelter, your time directly impacts the lives of animals in need. No experience needed—just compassion and a willingness to help.
Increase Adoptability
Your time and attention help animals shine. From walks and playtime to basic training and socialization, volunteers prepare pets for their forever homes by building confidence and trust.
Hands-On Impact
At LCAS, volunteers do more than observe — they act. Whether feeding, cleaning, or comforting, your time directly improves the lives of shelter pets every single day.
Foster
Open your home, save a life.
Fostering gives animals a break from the shelter and a chance to heal, grow, and prepare for adoption in a safe, loving environment. Whether it’s a kitten too young for adoption or a dog needing extra TLC, fosters provide the stability pets need most. In return, you’ll gain joy, purpose, and the unmatched experience of helping an animal take their first steps toward a forever home. If you have questions about fostering, email us!
